OPSC Exam Pattern: Preliminary Examination
The preliminary exam consists of two papers. The exam is objective type (multiple choice question) and each exam shall be of 2 hours duration.
Paper I: The paper I consist of General studies questions. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and the total marks are 200. The merit list for the mains exam will be based on the marks obtained in the Paper I.
Paper II: The Paper II consist of aptitude questions. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and the total marks will be 200. The paper II is qualifying in nature and the candidates have to score 33% in the Paper II otherwise there Paper I will not be evaluated.

- Current event of National and International importance
- Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiative, etc.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
- Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialization, and
- General Science.

- Comprehension
- Interpersonal Skills including communication skills
- Decision Making and Problem Solving
- Logical Reasoning and Analytic ability
- General Mental Ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude) (Class-X level). Data interpretation (Charts, Graphs, Tables, Data Sufficiency etc. — Class-X level); and
- English Language Comprehension Skills (Class-X level).
