Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wished Bharatiya Janata Party veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani on his 91st birthday. Extending birthday greetings, Modi prayed for Advani’s long life and also highlighted his hardwork towards nation building.
“Birthday greetings to respected Advani Ji. I pray that he is blessed with good health and a long life,” Modi tweeted.
In a series of tweets, Modi said, “Advani Ji is a political stalwart, a leader who has distinguished himself through hardwork and dedication towards our nation. We BJP Karyakartas are fortunate to always receive the guidance of Advani Ji. His efforts have contributed richly to the building of BJP.”
One of the oldest politicians in India, Advani was elected as the secretary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1947. He has risen through ranks and has held various important portfolios in the BJP government and senior positions in the party since then. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1970 and became BJP president in 1986. He first entered Lok Sabha in 1989 was the leader of Opposition then.
During the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, he was the deputy prime minister from 2002 to 2004. After winning the 2014 General Elections, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha for the seventh term.
He has also authored several books — A Prisoner’s Scrap Book, The People Betrayed, My Country My Life.
