The Sri Lankan Cricket team has been slated to visit India for three tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in November and December 2017. After sending the Kiwis home packing with a 2-1 series win in T20Is, Virat Kohli and Co. are all set to lock their horns with the Lions, with the series commencing from November 16.
The Sri Lankan team arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday without their batting coach Thilan Samaraweera due to a visa glitch. White washed by India in their own backyard earlier this year, the Lions will surely look to avenge their famed glory in their tour of the sub-continent.
The Lankans have never won a Test series in India. Another interesting stat is that the Lankans last toured India for a Test series way back in 2009, where they lost 0-2.
Sri Lanka cricket sent a 15-member contingent for the India tour, and surprisingly have axed opening batsman Kaushal Silva and top-order batsman Kusal Mendis due to their poor performance in recent times. However, a frequent Indian Premier League (IPL) participant Angelo Mathews has made a comeback into the team recovering from his hamstring injury.
With opener Murali Vijay and speedster Ishant Sharma making a comeback in the side, India will surely aim to maintain a clean sheet against the Lankans. India is yet to lose a bi-lateral series under skipper Virat Kohli and it is quite evident that the Men in Blue will not allow the Lions to stand tall after they edged past New Zealand in the shorter formats. Spear headed by Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami, India’s bowling line-up looks intimidating as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will lead the spin department besides chinaman Kuldeep Yadav.
The BCCI later pulled Hardik Pandya out of the series, with aim to give the Baroda all-rounder a rest and avoid any possible injury.
