09: 13 IST: Here's how the Day 3 pitch looks like ahead of the start of morning session.
08: 52 IST: A lead in excess of 250 runs would be enough to declare the innings. India, presently are 107 runs ahead and with three days still to go in this Test.
08: 38 IST: While Pujara has once again looked incredibly solid, focus will be on Virat Kohli to convert his half-century into a hundred once again.
Opener Murali Vijay thumped back his arrival in the longest format of the game with a stunning century and ably complemented Chesteshwar Pujara's unbeaten 121 as India dominated the second-day proceedings of the second Test against a jaded Sri Lanka at Nagpur, now maintaining a lead of 107 runs.
Taking on from the morning session, Vijay and Pujara stitched a phenomenal 209-run partnership for the second wicket – fourth consecutive 100-plus stand. Vijay, playing his comeback Test, notched up his 10th Test ton and thus added ample 'happy headache' to the 'opening-slot' conundrum for the much-anticipated South Africa series. Pujara, on the other hand, put his name on the century list for the day, slamming his fifth Test ton in 2017. And thus, with their relentless effort, the duo denied any sort of smile to sneak into the face of the visitors until Vijay's wicket off a fuller delivery from Herath. (IND vs SL)
Kohli walked in next and within moments the game took a different angle. Kohli resolved to his style of play and singles started seeping in. There was a sudden change in gear in the run rate. The skipper too added on to the day's credentials with a quickfire fifty. And as impressive as it may sound, towards the fag end of the third session, Kohli was striking at a phenomenal rate of 77.14.
Adding to the Lankan concern, Dasun Shanaka has been fined 75 per cent of the match fees for changing the condition of the ball during the Nagpur Test.
